artScamp for kiddos
Know any kiddo s’campers who really love to make art and have the desire and focus to spend time on projects? This camp is for them! Using mostly sustainable, recycled and natural materials, S’campers will have the opportunity to explore new tinkering tools and methods. Projects will be based on the
process not product philosophy, with each s’camper focusing on their own creative goals, experiments and vision within the boundary of the materials and tools provided.
Age range is 8-12 years old, but most importantly, artScamp kids are able to create in community with joy and focus, are self-regulated*, and...their parents are comfortable with them using tools and techniques that require some care and safety.
*Self-regulated in that your child is able to be safe/responsible with real tools, respectful of off-limits spaces/items, listen to and follow limits and expectations, etc. Unfortunately, at this time, we don't have the ability to give a kiddo extra help in those areas and still stay true to the artScamp mission.
Is your child apprehensive about camp?
Kids can be overwhelmed by camps with dozens of kiddos and many transitions throughout the day. The noise, different activities and number of "new" spaces can be too much for some kiddos.
ArtScamp is small (never more than 10 kids), and is child-led. S'campers can take breaks and eat when they need to. We love the process of creating and we do it in a supportive and brave space. Art is all we do so there are no big transitions.
We work together as one group and foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for all s'campers. There are spaces where s'campers can go when they need to reset or take a moment for themselves.

S’campers will sand pre-cut pine, assemble, use wood burning technique to decorate, and finish with wax. Participants will have an opportunity to experiment with the wood burning technique on wood squares before working on the toolbox design.

Kids need help with gift giving? Or perhaps you are avoiding box stores, or trying to be more economical or sustainable with homemade gifts. Maybe you just want to create some bling for yourself or for the love of the process!! Whatever the reason we hope you will join us for this fun open studio.

Winter artScamp Sewing Session
January 5-9, 2026
This sewing intensive is for s'campers who have a little basic sewing experience who want to improve their hand sewing skills, or for those that are more advanced and want to learn more advanced skills.
Monday-Friday, 9am-1:30pm
Friday we have an artShow for friends/family 1:15-1:45pm

We will cover:
> knowing your sewing equipment/tools
> starting and ending stitches
> decorative stitches and embroidery
> tiding up stitching
> correcting mistakes
> using patterns/templates
> seam allowance
> designing your own stuffed creature
> and lots of knot tying and needle threading practice!
> if students want to learn something specific they can let me know ahead of time and if it fits into the program we will do it.
*S’campers who have taken my (or someone else’s) hand SEWING classes before can be as young as 8 years old but they need to have had some experience so they can keep up with the older s’campers without needing consistent one on one help. Sewing requires patience and using and practicing motor skills — even when frustrated :) Please contact me if your child is 8 or 9 years old so we can make sure it is a good fit.
Registration is for full session. The nature of the sewing program is that it builds on itself as we go, and it is instructive (unlike my usually process art classes) so coming for single days will be disruptive to the group flow.
Sibling/BFF discounts, must register at same time.

Sorry, no refunds or credits for missed days. If your s’camper misses a day because of illness, we will do our best to make up in another session if space and schedule allow.
Minimum 4 / Maximum 8 participants.
Camp will be held outside, unless it rains. There is a dedicated camp bathroom. S’campers bring their own lunches/snacks. We have filtered water for refilling bottles.

It is hard to scale tools/process and projects to different developmental stages, and I am a very small camp. I have noticed that younger s’campers can get frustrated if motor skills required are beyond their current reach and older s'campers want to explore more skilled processes and tools. In order for each s'camper to have their best experience with the minimum amount of disruption to the flow of creating, I have designed each session to reflect that age group, and I hold to them. I hope your child can find a session that works for their age and schedule, but if not, please consider contacting me to inquire about private classes.
After school sessions typically run once a week for 4 weeks. Sorry no refunds for missed classes. If your s’camper misses a week because of illness, we will do our best to make up in another session if space and schedule allow.
I do my best to consider all local district school calendars (LAUSD, SMMUSD and Culver City) and for most part, we skip a day if there is a day off from school but some schools vary so please read the dates listed on each session to make sure they work for your family.

At artScamp we support economic justice and believe creative enrichment is for everyone. We offer graduated scale payment and a limited number of full scholarships. In addition, if you are in a position to support artScamp scholarships please contact me to see how we can work together to do that.
Art is all we do :) so please keep that in mind when you consider if your child will enjoy our classes.
